What is Lid surgery ?
Lid surgery, commonly known as eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty, is a cosmetic or reconstructive surgical procedure performed on the eyelids. It is designed to improve the appearance or function of the upper and/or lower eyelids. This surgery can be done for both aesthetic and medical reasons, such as to correct drooping eyelids, remove excess skin, or reduce puffiness around the eyes.
Here are the two main types of lid surgery:
- Upper Eyelid Surgery:
- This procedure removes excess skin, fat, or muscle from the upper eyelid, which may droop due to aging or genetics.
- It can help improve vision if drooping eyelids obstruct the field of view.
- Lower Eyelid Surgery:
- This targets the lower eyelid to reduce puffiness or bags under the eyes by removing or repositioning fat.
- It can also tighten loose or sagging skin for a more youthful appearance.
Lid surgery is often performed under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia, depending on the complexity of the procedure. Recovery usually takes a few weeks, and the results can last many years.
